Printmaking - Monotypes
Instructor Kathleen McDonald
FALL/WINTER 2008/2009 Monotypes are a cross between painting and printmaking. An image is created on a fixed surface or matrix. Kathleen uses zinc or plexiglass plates with water-based Createx Monotype paint or oil paint. Moistened rag paper is placed over the paint on the plate and then sent through an etching press. When the paper is removed, the transferred image is reversed. This is just one print made, hence the term Monotype. Createx Monoprint Paint, Rives BFK rag paper and plexiglass plates will be supplied. Students should bring their own paintbrushes and paper towels or rags and water container. Students may bring their own watercolors or oil paint if they prefer. Stencils may be used and your favorite photographs or other reference material will be helpful. No previous knowledge of drawing or painting is necessary but experienced painters will enjoy the exploration of this interesting medium.
