Summer Art Camp 2008

Come and explore the world of the arts and crafts. Learn basketry, drawing, glass fusing, painting, pottery and stained glass. Also try your hand at drawing and painting.

Basket Making & Fiber Exploration for Beginners
Instructor: Sue Davis - Ages 6 & Up
Offered All Sessions - Tuesday/Thursday - 10am -12pm
Students will become acquainted with materials and techniques of basic weaving using a variety of textural materials to create fun sculpture works and baskets.

Basket Making & Fiber Exploration for the Intermediate Student
Instructor: Sue Davis - Ages 8 & Up
Offered All Sessions - Tuesday/Thursday - 1pm - 3pm
Students must have completed the Beginners class before advancing to the Intermediate class. This class is designed for the student who has mastered the basic techniques and is ready to advance to more difficult projects.

Glass Fusing
Instructor: Josephina Espinosa - Ages 9 & Up
Offered All Sessions - Tuesday/Thursday - 10am - 12pm
Students will learn to create fused glass jewelry using colored glass. Glass pendants are lovely simply strung on a cord.

Stained Glass
Instructor: Josephina Espinosa - Ages 9 & Up
Offered All Sessions - Tuesday/Thursday - 1pm - 3pm
Students will learn the basic "how to's" of stained glass and glass etching. (Safety glasses required.)

Clay Mania
Instructor: Sister Maureen - Ages 6-10
Offered All Sessions - Monday/Wednesday & Tuesday/Thursday - 10am - 12pm
Come play with clay. Three-dimensional art using all forms of expression. Learn the basic skills involved in hand building with clay including, pinching, coiling and soft slab.

See It, Draw It
Instructor: Karen Hitt - Ages 10 & Up
Offered Session 3 - Tuesday/Thursday - 10am - 12pm
Learn to see like an artist and make your pictures come to life. Subjects include life, still to furry and on all fours. Will work in pencil, pen and ink and pastel.

Painting FUN-damentals
Instructor: Karen Hitt - Ages 10 & Up
Offered Session 4 - Tuesday/Thursday - 10am - 12pm
Work like an artist at an easel with your own palette along with one special project you may wear or share. The skies the limit, students will explore color, texture, composition, and the masters in art too.

Pen, Ink & Watercolors
Instructor: Karen Hitt - Ages 10 & Up
Offered Session 5 - Tuesday/Thursday - 10am - 12pm
Explore cartooning and crosshatching with pen and ink, mixed with all the possibilities of working with watercolor, wacky to realistic. Splish splashing through the end of summer.

Fur, Fins & Feathers
Instructor: Frances Smith - Ages 7-9
Offered Session 2 & 5 - Monday/Wednesday - 10am - 12pm
Students will work in pastels, watercolor and collage. The techniques of creating textures will be stressed.....fur, scales, skin and feathers. Some live models.

Cartooning
Instructor: Frances Smith - Ages 9 & Up
Offered Sessions 1, 3 & 4 - Monday/Wednesday - 10am - 12pm
For kids who like the comics and love to doodle, this class will develop their skills to create an original character, create a comic strip and paint a T-shirt.

Mixed Media
Instructor: Judy Lee - Ages 4, 5 & 6
Offered All Sessions - Monday/Wednesday - 10am - 12pm
This class will provide the young art student with the tools on which to build a better understanding of how artists create their work in various media through the use of the basic elements of art such as line, shape, color and texture. Each session will offer new projects to the students.

Let's Make Art!
Instructor: Carolyn Johnston - Ages 7-9
Offered Sessions 1 - 5 - Monday/Wednesday - 1pm - 3pm
Painting, drawing, 3-D projects, paper mache sculpture and printing experiences. Each session will offer new projects to the students fostering their creativity and imagination

Fine Art Photography
Instructor: Amy Webber - Ages 8 & Up
Offered All Sessions - Monday/Wednesday - 9:30am - 12pm
Cost for this class is $95. due to the expense of paper and chemicals for the darkroom.
Do you want to learn how to take good pictures, how the camera works and how to print your own pictures in the darkroom? Then this is the magical class for you! Students will be learning all kinds of darkroom techniques such as sabotia and hand coloring your prints (which is now considered a fine art) and digital photography. We will be learning pinhole photography and developing of our black and white film. Cameras, darkroom supplies and photographic paper included.

Pottery & Raku
Instructor: Amy Webber - Ages 8 & Up
Offered All Sessions - Monday/Wednesday 1pm - 3pm
Cost of this class is $80. due to the cost of supplies and the gas firing process.
Students will learn to make pottery on the wheel, hand building pieces and then use special glazes and fire the work in the ancient Japanese art of "Raku". The glaze process gives a beautiful crackle and metallic color only available through "Raku".

Oriental Brush Painting
Instructor: Amy Webber - Ages 6-10
Offered Sessions 1 & 4 - Tuesday/Thursday - 10am - 12pm
Learn to paint in the oriental was of painting. Students will learn techniques using the bamboo brush just as the children in the orient, creating wonderful pieces of art.

Painting - Mixed Media Art
Instructor Amy Webber - Ages 6-10
Offered Sessions 2 & 5 - Tuesday/Thursday - 10am - 12pm
So you want to paint? This class will expose students to all kinds of painting methods, collage and mixing of paints, pastels, acrylics, watercolor and oil. This will be a fun class, creativity will be strongly encouraged. Each session will work with s different combination of materials.

Mono & Nature Printing
Instructor: Amy Webber - Ages 6-10
Offered Session 3 - Tuesday/Thursday - 10am - 12pm
Offered Session 5 - Tuesday/Thursday - 1pm- 3pm
Students will learn the printing methods of mono printing from our artwork and printing from nature while composition and the elements of art are taught. Creativity will be strongly encouraged.

Papermaking
Instructor: Amy Webber - Ages 6-10
Offered Session 4 - Tuesday/Thursday 1pm - 3pm
This will be a fun and interesting contemporary art class. Students will be making paper and creating works of art that will include marbleizing, inks, dying, embossing patterns and using natural plants in their own hand made papers.

DATES: Session 1 - June 9 - 19

Session 2 - June 23 - July 3

Session 3 - July 7 - 17

Session 4 - July 21 - 31

Session 5 - August 4 - 14

How it works: Each class meets twice a week, either Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday for two weeks. For a total of four two hour classes either from 10 a.m. to 12 noon or from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Cost: $70/Class/Session. Fee includes all materials and supplies; with the exception of the Raku and Photography classes. The fee for Raku is $80. and the fee for Photography is $95. all supplies are included.

If the class of your choice is full or cancelled (due to lack of enrollment), you will be notified. In either case, you are entitled to a full refund. No written confirmation will be sent to you, if you do not receive a phone call, your child has been enrolled in class.

Our classes are designed to foster creativity and imagination in a friendly, safe environment. They are structured to give children the confidence they need to develop and complete projects. Our teachers are professional art educators dedicated to helping children acquire skills they can use throughout their lives. Children should wear clothing appropriate to art and craft activity. Special needs children must be accompanied by a caretaker.
