Portraits in Oil & Acrylics
Ron Sanders
FALL/WINTER/SPRING 2008/2009 Capturing the subtleties of a person's likeness can be the most challenging of all artistic endeavors. But the secret to good portraiture lies first in accurately recording the large shape relationships. We will explore the importance of strong observation and drawing skills, simplification of values to strengthen form, color temperature and paint application to depict the qualities of light on flesh, hair and fabric, and how to block in forms with large areas of color first, working progressively toward smaller shapes and selective detail in coordination with edge control to produce convincing portraits in oil and acrylic.
