Oil Painting Workshop
Instructor Hodges Soileau
FALL/WINTER 2008/2009
In this three day workshop, I will try to impart some of the principals of painting that I use and consider most important, whether one is working in oils, or any medium that uses color. The principals of shape, value, color temperature, edge quality, composition, and paint quality are what re most important, and I stress this in all of my workshops and classes. For example; color is important, but not as important as color temperature. When one is painting from life, the temperature of the light determines the temperature of the oclor in the light and shadow areas. This will be addressed and demonstrated in this workshop.
It is extremely important to improve ones observation skills, One should try painting in a more painterly manner, and indicate things, rather than slavishly render the subject. This will be demonstrated and stressed. Hodges will do a demonstration at the beginning of each day showing differenct ways to begin a painting. There is no one best way to do this. One must remain open to the possibilties. One must have options in their arsenal that allows them to tackle any subject and this sometimes might require a different approach. Last, but not least is the importance of having fun. Painting, although at times difficult, should certainly be fun. Time: Monday, Wednesday and Saturday, 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Dates:
