March 2008
Dear Members and Friends: I look forward to the upcoming year as president of the board of directors at Venice Art Center. The board has six new directors, Caroline DeAngelis, Maryjo Floryjanski, Robert Haney, Melinda Mudge, Tiffany Taylor and Sharon Walls. Each one comes with their own special experience and I am excited about this next year. We will miss the directors that went off the board, Bonnie Kaiser, Sharon Tritschler, Ann Dodderidge, Pam Campone, Judy Cory and Aileen Davis. Thank you so much for your dedicated service. The directors that are still on the board are Julie Baxter, Susan Cairo, Debbie Campbell, Jeff Cornell, Barbara Freeman, Kerin Hough, Steve Meier and Ernie Skinner.
I encourage you to get to know your directors. Our goal is to provide cultural resources to the community and to encourage the knowledge and appreciation of the visual arts in all its forms.
I would like to thank Barbara Freeman for her dedicated service these past two years as president. She accomplished many things and a few of those are the installation of hurricane shutters, brought back the commemorative bricks and gallery talks, the very successful plein air event, increasing membership by 10% each year, new computer and hook up thanks to Jean Trammell and Grady Hough. Thanks again Barbara.
We have been working with Sonya Myers who has been building our website and bringing us up to date. This newsletter will be the last newsletter to be mailed as a hard copy. This will save the Art Center over $5,000.00 a year. If you sign up on the website you will get a notice via e-mail that the newsletter is online at veniceartcenter.com. For those of you who live locally and do not have a computer, you will be able to pick up a copy at the Art Center when you come visit us. If you are a member and live out of the area and don't have a computer, we will mail you a copy, just send a note to the Art Center asking to receive a hard copy of the newsletter.
Thank you for helping us to save mailing and material costs. Thank you Susan Cairo for writing the newsletter as a volunteer and thank you Julie Baxter for posting all information onto the website as a volunteer. Both of these jobs are very time consuming and we appreciate all you do.
This is our 50th year anniversary. So much has happened over the past 50 years!! And so many dedicated people have made the Venice Art Center what it is today. Thank you each and everyone. I can't recognize everyone (I wouldn't even know where to start) but I can recognize the past presidents:

March news at the Venice Art Center
Plein air art filled downtown Venice in February thanks to many talented artists of the Venice Art Center.
A highlight of the Plein Air Paint Out in Paradise invitational was the gallery talk by Mary Erickson. More than 200 members of the art community and local collectors enjoyed the hour-long talk. As always, bringing talented and inspirational speakers to Venice Art Center is one of our main goals.
The paint out came to a close with an exciting reception and fine art sale. Many of the artist's pieces that portrayed their idea of a perfect day in paradise were sold the night of the reception. An important part of being an artist and member of the Venice Art Center is to showcase your talent to the community. With the generous support of Northern Trust and Lynn and Paul Moseley, both the reception and awards ceremony made for a magical evening in paradise.
