All skill levels are welcome. Bring the talent and desire you have and we’ll
“meet you where you are” even if you’ve never painted before. Instruction
is tailored to individual skill levels so everyone is comfortable. Individualized
instruction and demonstrations help you learn faster. You will be painting the
subject of your choice as you develop and fine tune your skills. You will learn
skills, techniques, color and composition. Demonstrations of techniques and
critiques of work will be given in each class. The class is relaxed and fun as we learn together.

This two-day workshop is for those who have little or no experience in the marvelous
medium of watercolor. It will introduce brush handling, color theory, composition,
and many techniques to get a happy start. Demonstration and guidance will be given.
This workshop will encourage you to pursue more artistic development.

#704 Plein Air Painting in Watercolor Workshop

Join Heather as she works with you to “take the basics outdoors” and take your painting to the next level.
This two-day workshop is divided into 4 sessions with emphasis on: selecting subject, designing the
value sketch, choosing a palette, and controlling the edges. Each session will begin with a brief demonstration.
Mother Nature will provide the essential raw material. Dress for the outdoors. Bring sketch book, pencil, paints,
palette, brushes, watercolor paper and support, water container, chair or easel, and lunch. Prepare for fun, exploration,
and great painting.

Each class will focus on advancing a combination of techniques in creating
sea and landscapes. Various techniques will be demonstrated
and practiced in class. You will be assigned a painting to be done at
home for critique at the beginning of the next class. This will
help you develop your own style and get answers to your questions.

Take a step farther, get out of your comfort zone! This class will guide you into
exploring and enhancing your watercolors with other media. We will introduce
papers (we will make some of our own), found objects, materials found around
the house, acrylics, pastels, anything else we can conjure up to create textures
and interest. We will combine traditional painting with a contemporary
twist. The only limits are your imagination. We will have fun!

In this beginners class students will learn basic design, composition and watercolor

class or have a comprehensive understanding of the medium and technique.
You will learn to paint beyond easy landscape, using combinations of loose and
controlled strokes. The emphasis will be on technique development and having
fun while learning new ways with watercolors. Depending on climate, at least
one class will be held outdoors.

Have you always wished you could paint, but thought you had no talent? Do you
doodle? If the answer is “yes” then leap into this workshop for the beginner and
the curious. You will learn how to see like an artist sees, playing pencil games,
tearing up papers and discussing the qualities needed in a good painting. After
lunch we will play with watercolor paints, mixing lights and darks and see what emerges
in your heart and on paper. There is a simple supply list or you can buy supplies at the workshop.

Do you have a stack of unsuccessful watercolor or acrylic paintings? Let’s start with
an unsuccessful water based painting and recreate it with a fluid opaque water based
paint. You can use your imagination by adding interesting objects. 3D? We will
simplify values and shapes by painting over old paintings or ripping, gluing and
adding in some extras, creating a multimedia art piece. Teens encouraged. All levels welcome.

Discover why nature is the painter’s best teacher. We will begin with an
introduction covering the most important components in a successful landscape,
and in what order. Learn to see with the eyes of an artist; a world of color and
atmosphere. You will learn how to see the world in shapes of light and dark, and how
the atmosphere affects color & value. Good painters spend many hours painting from
life and the challenge is more than worth the difficulty. It is life changing. Please bring lunch.
